40 as a number has been mentioned many times in bible.
After being baptised, Jesus was tempted by satan in the wilderness for 40 days. Matthew 4

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.
Moses on Mt Sinai for 40 days receiving the law. Exodus 24

Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
