Luke 13. Tree not bear fruit cut it down

Luke 13:7-9 NIV
So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’     “ ‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it.  If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’ ”

This is the verse which make me change my yard into fruit tree plantation. Since the greeny grass did not bear fruit better plant some tree which bear fruit. And this proof to be success. I have harvest twice the banana and the 3rd and 4th is coming soon. Not counting these herb and vegetables.

Luke 12. Wealth planner

Luke 12:15 NIV
Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”

Greed. Buy buy buy all the materials. This is greed.

Can I trust God totally and not plan for future? Can but can I put it in practice.

Is this mean you should not accumulate wealth. I  don't think so.

Luke 12:21 NIV
“This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”

What we should do is the thing that toward God. With the wealth we accumulated,  we can do GOD WORK.

This is very challenging. By the time you are wealthy,  we are easily forgotten about God. Because we can control or are in control of everything. We thought.

Luke 12:20 NIV
“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

But One Thing We Cannot Control is we might be called home.

Luke 11. Important of eyes

Luke 11:34 NIV
Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy,  your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy,  your body also is full of darkness.

Think of it,  through eyes we see things - be it good or bad.  After the eyes it go into the brain to process it. But first was the eyes. If we see good things,  the brain will only received good stuff.

Temptation of the world.

Luke 11:4 NIV
Forgive us our sins,    for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.     And lead us not into temptation.    ’ ”

We need to ask God to forgive our sins. Yes as man we subject  to temptation of the world. We need the strength provided by God to pass the temptation. No doubt we will have temptation,  but we will put it behind us.

Ask for strength.

Luke 11:9-10 NIV
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

It is clearly stated in Luke 11,  ask and you will be given.

Like 10. Focus on Jesus

The story of Marry and Martha. Martha was busy prepare the food for Jesus. But Mary just listen to Jesus.

This is what we need to do.

Luke 10:39 NIV
She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.

Luke 10:42 NIV
but few things are needed—or indeed only one.  Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Many time we are busy with our daily life or prepare for ritual but forgot to focus on Jesus.

Luke 10. Love your neighbor

Luke 10:27 NIV
He answered, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ ; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

Classic law. This is the first commandment and also called great commandment.

First thing first is to love God. Not only love but love with all your heart, mall your soul and all your strength.

Secondly,  love your neighbor.

The famous good samaritan story.

Luke 10:30-37 NIV
In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.  A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.  So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.  But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.  He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him.  The next day he took out two denarii  and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’     “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”    The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

I remember this was practice by a pastor of one church where one day he encounter with so MN eine homeless. He actually took him him and feed him. The rest is history where the church feed thousands homeless in the city center evetybwerekend.

Luke 10. 72 sent out

Luke 10:1 NIV
After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.

This is the second time Jesus sent out followed to spread the gospel. First time was the 12 disciples. 12 X 6 = 72. Not double but 6 times more.

Luke 10:2 NIV
He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

Even at the peak of Jesus Life,  There Are Still Many Did Not About The Kingdom. Most probably they are focus on how to get rid of Roman power.

Luke 10:3 NIV
Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.

How Jesus describe the missionary - lamb among the wolves. Any time the lamb could be eaten.

Why out there are do fierce. You are preaching the Kingdom of heaven,  you are given a free ticket for the entry of the gate to heaven yet you retaliate.

This is the work of the devil. Try to prevent man to follow Jesus.

Luke 9. My Son

Luke 9:35 NIV
A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.”

This happen when Jesus transfigure at the mountain.

The earlier when God proclaim Jesus As His Son was after Jesus being Baptist.

Luke 3:22 NIV
and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

Notice God not letting Jesus, His Son,  alone,  at least until now,  He had acknowledge Jesus twice as His Son. Also in later He is promoting His Son.

Luke 9:28 NIV
About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray.

Peter,  John and James, were with Jesus.

Peter,  appear many times in bible and also in the Book of Act.

James,  wrote the Book of James.

John,  if not taken he wrote the revelation.
Jesus said this when He first talk about His death.

Luke 9:27 NIV
“Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.”

Is this refer to John?  Did John die after he finish the revelation?

Luke 9. Jesus give thanks for the food

Luke 9:16 NIV
Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people.

Even Jesus also gave thanks for the food that r b re are goi b go to take. This happen when they try to feed the 5 thousands with the 5 l I aves and 2 fishes.

Luke 9. Not everyone will accept the good news

Luke 9:5 NIV
If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”

Jesus already know that not everyone will accept the good news. Hence there is no doubt Jesus always said let those who have ears listen.

Luke 9. Jesus gave power and authority

Luke 9:1 NIV
When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases,

Before Jesus sent the disciple out He gave them power and authority.

And it actually happen that the disciples got the power and authority and they healed many people.

Luke 9:6 NIV
So they set out and went from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere.

Luke 8. Not to tell anyone what had happened

Luke 8:56 NIV
Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.

In many time Jesus told the person He healed not to tell anyone.

But the demon posses man Jesus did the other way round,  ask him to go tell other how God love him.

Luke 8:39 NIV
“Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.

Google.

Lay man will think that if Jesus was famous for his miracle, not will be very easy for people to come to him and believe in God.

But then that will be the focus. Miracle. But even though a man is healed it will die one day. What Jesus wanted is eternal life for all.

Luke 8. Who have ears listen

Luke 8:8 NIV
Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.”  When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”

This seem like the concept of many business,  direct sales,  real estate,  insurance etc.  You talk to 100 people may be 10 people will listen.

Quality of nature dciples

Mature disciple - lay a firm foundation to face the fear curcundt a news of life.

Philippians 1:13 NIV
As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.

Paul life. 3 quality.
1.  Keen spiritual perception

Philippians 1:12 NIV
Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel.

Even Paul was in prison, but he still look at it positively and still seek chance to spread the gospel.

Philippians 1:13 NIV
As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.

Paul was in prison because if the gospel.  This lead to stronger faith of the brother and sister outside.

Philippians 1:14 NIV
And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.

The missionary suppose to target China but ended up in Melaka. This lead to the churches were buikt in Malaysia today.

God plan is higher than our plan.

2.  Deep level of maturity

Philippians 1:18 NIV
But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,

The focus is on gospel been preached and not on man.

Why am i angry?  What is my focus.

3.  Different attitude

Philippians 1:18 NIV
But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,

Rejoice and continue to rejoice so long as gospel been preached.

Luke 7. WORD of authority

Luke 7:7 NIV
That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.

This is one of them,  there are many instances that Jesus was surprise we it the faith the person has and miracles happen instantly.

But now we no longer have Jesus physically, how can we hear Jesus word. Bible is the word of God.  Read the hike and God Will Speak To You.

What I need is a mustard seed faith. How to have the kind of faith. Trusting God. If you are the father,  don't you will dc on the best for your kids ? similarly heav err not Father,  He has a good plan ahead of you.

Luke 6. Lord

Luke 6:46 NIV
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?

From the dictionary definition - Lord is a person who has authority,  control and power over other. A master.

What Jesus said is very true. We call Him but never do He said.

Similarly we call Abba Father,  but do we listen to Him,  do we talk to Him frequently.

This relate me and Jonathan,  I expect him to obey me and listen to my advice.

Luke 6. Do not judge other

Luke 6:37 NIV
“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

Luke 6:41 NIV
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

I was judging other this and that. This is bad. I need to learn stop judging other. It is still good at least I got 2 person inside me. One man judge and another man felt guilty.  So slowly I need to get ride of the judging man.

Be positive and don't see only the negative side of the person. , in fact see only the good side of the person.

Luke 6. Love your enemy

Luke 6:27-32 NIV
“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,  bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also.

If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them.  Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.

Do to others as you would have them do to you.

“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.

THERE IS LONG WAY TO GO. NONE OF THEM I CAN FULFILL YET.

Luke 5. Jesus for sinner

Practical side of Jesus. You don't need doctor if you are healthy.

Luke 5:31-32 NIV
Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.  I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

Luke 5. Jesus first disciples. James and John

How Jesus pick up the disciples?  First by showing them the miracles with similar meaning of their future mission.

Now they are fishibermen but t game eyes are going to be fishermen of mot fish but man.

Who are these first selected disciple. - James, John and Simon Peter. John here Is another John not John the Baptist.

Why Jesus did not chose the high priest?   High priest at that time did not have a good reputation. Why not a more knowledgeable person?  No idea. But it is just a Humble fishermen.

Hence,  God can make use of a man,  even though he or she is not someone special.

Luke 5:10-11 NIV
and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.”  So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

Luke 4. Jesus spoke with Authority

Luke 4:35 NIV
“Be quiet!” Jesus said sternly. “Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him.

With the name of Jesus,  we can command the demon too.

Luke 4. Jesus was rejected in hometown

Luke 4:24 NIV
“Truly I tell you,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown.

This make me remember one case in my home town. There is this one eye man,  very famous,  of his witch skill. But in the town he is just a normal man in the street.
But for politician it is the other way round as norm that one will go back to his or her hometown for election. The recent win of teluk intan MP is an example.

How about Christian life. Yes or no. Pastor can be consider local as KL but zoom in he is not from Cheras.

What does this matter?  Not really the imperative thing is the good news is given out to the world.

Luke 4. 40 days wilderness temptation

3 points Jesup taught about the scripture :-

1.  spiritual and physical
Our body need food to sustain. Similarly go for our spirit and soul, needed the spiritual food to move forward.

Luke 4:4 NIV
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’  ”

This is quoted from Deuteronomy.

Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. - Deuteronomy 8:3 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy8:3&version=NIV

2.  Workshop God alone
God is a jealous God.

Luke 4:8 NIV
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’  ”

Again Jesus use Deuteronomy to teach.

You must fear the Lord your God and serve him. When you take an oath, you must use only his name. “You must not worship any of the gods of neighboring nations, for the Lord your God, who lives among you, is a jealous God. His anger will flare up against you, and he will wipe you from the face of the earth. - Deuteronomy 6:13-15 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy6:13-15&version=NIV

3.  Do not test God
God even know the number of hair you are having, how can you test Him if He is the one who have the answer.

Luke 4:12 NIV
Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’  ”

You must not test the Lord your God as you did when you complained at Massah. You must diligently obey the commands of the Lord your God—all the laws and decrees he has given you. - Deuteronomy 6:16-17 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy6:16-17&version=NIV

Luke 3. Jesus is 30

Luke 3:23 NIV
Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph, the son of Heli,

Jesus appear again when he was 30. There is a gap from 12 to 30. This was not recorded any where.

30 is about the age of getting marriage in today society. Jesus did not get married but started the ministry.

To fie at age 30 is young.

Luke 3. Jesus Baptist

Luke 3:21-22 NIV
When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

This is the verse that drive me to be Baptist 2 years ago.

Even Jesus was Been Baptist,  how about me.

Here God directly acknowledge Jesus as His Son. This is done after Jesus being Baptist. It mean from this moment onward Jesus was born again and officially declare as Son of God.

Luke 3. John in prison

Luke 3:19-20 NIV
But when John rebuked Herod the tetrarch because of his marriage to Herodias, his brother’s wife, and all the other evil things he had done, Herod added this to them all: He locked John up in prison.

John dare to speak the truth and even rebuke the King. I cannot remember any where Jesus rebuke the authority or the King.

John head was chopped because of this.

Until now I still wonder why good people have to pay the price. John is one of them. There are many prophets or disciples fid not have a good ending.

Jesus case was clear that his destiny is to cone as sacrifice lamb.

Luke 3. John prepare the way

Luke 3:16 NIV
John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

There is no mention any where that God spoken to John directly. But John prophesied that the Messiah will come.

Did God speak to John?

Luke 3. John teaching

1.  John Famous Teaching -REPENTANCE.

Luke 3:8 NIV
Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.

Luke 3:8 CEVDCUS06
Do something to show that you really have given up your sins. Don't start saying you belong to Abraham's family. God can turn these stones into children for Abraham.

NLT new living translation
Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God. Don’t just say to each other, ‘We’re safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.’ That means nothing, for I tell you, God can create children of Abraham from these very stones. - Luke 3:8 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage

After reading a few translation,  now I got some light Luke 3. 8

John put it in the way that we must produce fruit from the result of repentance.

Second half is more towards Jews,  Where They Thought They Are Abraham descendent,  by default they are God Chosen People And Everything Will Be Taken For Granted.

2.  Tree did not bear fruit- if the habit did not bear a good fruit,  cut it off. Freeda was talking about declare dead for bad habit.

Luke 3:9 NIV
The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”

3.  Give to poor

Luke 3:11 NIV
John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.”

4.  Do your job

Luke 3:13 NIV
“Don’t collect any more than you are required to,” he told them.

5.  be content

Luke 3:14 NIV
Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” He replied, “Don’t extort money and don’t accuse people falsely—be content with your pay.”

Luke 2. Jesus was twelve

Luke 2:42 NIV
When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom.

Jesus was twelve. There was a gap between Jesus was consecrated at the temple and purification rite and now already twelve. There is no recording of between 1 to 12 years old.

Luke 2:49 NIV
“Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?”

Jesus was twelve and he already know that he is the Son of God.

Twelve.
1.  There was 12 disciples. Why 12?
2.  Standard 6 is at the age of twelve.
3.  My house number is 12.

Any Significant?

Luke 2. Jesus for all

Luke 2:30-32 NIV
For my eyes have seen your salvation,   which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:   a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”

3 things was foretold here.
1.  Jesus is for all nations
2.  Jesus yo be light or hope for gentiles
3.  Israelite , God chosen people

Life application bible explain why both Simeon and Anna,  both are old people.

Simeon was dying,  he waited for the last moment to see the Messiah before go in peace.

Luke 2:26 NIV
It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah.

Anna was 84 years old then.

Luke 2:37 NIV
and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.

Both Are Very Faithful Person.

Holy Spirit was on Simeon.

Luke 2:25 NIV
Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.

Anna basically live in the temple and worshiped night and day,  fasting and praying.

Luke 2:37 NIV
and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.

Old and Godly people are chosen here,  life application bible explain that Jews culture respect old people wisdom.

Conqueror

Psalm 109:20 NIV
May this be the Lord ’s payment to my accusers, to those who speak evil of me.

Romans 8:37 NIV
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Romans 8:31 NIV
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Conqueror of the world.

Complacency. Satisfactory.

1.  Rise up with spiritual awakening

David and Galiath

1 Samuel 17:8 NIV
Goliath stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why do you come out and line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not the servants of Saul? Choose a man and have him come down to me.

Voice of intimidation to your spirit.

1 Samuel 17:26 NIV
David asked the men standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

1 Samuel 17:40 NIV
Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.

Declaration of truth.

1 Samuel 17:45 NIV
David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

To win the battle,  you must fight the battle.

We need the spiritual strength.  It come from the relationship with Lord.

Don't give up.

David had the conviction but he need to fight the Goliath himself.

Victory conquer the fear.

Christian life is the battle field.

Story of David and Goliath

4 giants

1. Delay

1 Samuel 16:1 NIV
